Let’s be honest. Talking about the hard stuff is difficult. We know that it can be difficult to start the conversation about your decision to be an organ, eye and tissue donor in general. It can be even more difficult when the organ donation conversation is between you and your kids. It can create uncomfortable and unfamiliar feelings, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
To help make starting the organ donation conversation a bit easier, we’ve asked a Donor Alliance staff member and her son to show us how they had the conversation when he got his learner’s permit.
For more information about how to start the conversation, please check out our post How to Talk to Your Kids About Organ and Tissue Donation. It includes some tips on what to say and how to approach the topic. There are also great resources about how donation works. Get the facts before you arrive at your local Driver Services office, so you and your child know what your donation decision is ahead of time and are prepared.
