Earn Your Heart on Your Wyoming Driver License

Say Yes to organ, eye and tissue donation and earn the heart on your driver license.

Wyoming residents can sign up to be an organ, eye and tissue donor when obtaining or renewing their driver license or state ID, in-person, by mail or online. Once you renew your license and register your decision to be a donor, your new Wyoming driver license or state ID will highlight your donor status with a heart.

Visit the Wyoming Driver Services website to find answers to some frequently asked questions about obtaining and renewing your driver’s license and state ID.

What’s the difference between signing up online or at the Driver Services office?

In short, nothing. When you sign up at your local Driver Services office, you are signing up with the state organ, eye and tissue donor registry for Wyoming. You can also register your decision to become an organ, eye and tissue donor with the Wyoming state registry on our website. If you sign up on our website, you are on the donor registry just the same, but you won’t get a heart symbol on your license until you say Yes at Driver Services the next time you visit.

Donate Life Wyoming is the brand of the donor registry and the symbol of the cause of organ, eye and tissue donation and transplantation overall. Donor Alliance maintains the registry and ensures that lifesaving organ and tissue donations are safely and swiftly received by the nearly 150 people in need in Wyoming. The Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Bank facilitates cornea donation in most of Wyoming.

What’s the difference between the Wyoming state registry and the national registry?

The national registry was created in partnership with our parent organization, Donate Life America, and other national partners to promote national campaigns and mobile-friendly donor registrations. For example, when you sign up as a donor via the iPhone Health app, you are registering with the national registry. No matter which registry you are on, both the state and national registry will be checked at the time of death. Your most recent registration will be honored as the legal document of your gift.

How do I earn my heart on my driver license or state ID?

To obtain a Wyoming driver license or state ID, you must appear in person at a Wyoming Driver Services Exam Station to complete an application, have a photo taken, and pass a vision screening. You may be required to take a written and/or driving skills test for a driver license. For renewals, you are allowed to renew by mail every other renewal or once in a 10 year period. You will receive notification in the mail, if you are eligible to renew by mail.

There are 29 Driver Exam Station locations in the State of Wyoming. See the full list of exam stations here. For more information call Wyoming Driver Services Customer Service at 307-777-4800, Monday-Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, closed holidays.

What’s the difference between DMV and Driver Services?

The terms DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) and Driver Services are often used interchangeably. Here in Wyoming, you will obtain and renew your vehicle license plates, title and registration at the local county treasurer office in the county seat of your county of residence. Driver Services is where you get your driver license or state ID. In Wyoming, various departments within the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) separately handle your driver license renewal and your vehicle license plates, title and registration renewal.
